The Morris Minor Traveller arrived in 1953 as the estate variant of Alec Issigonis's people's car, distinguished by its structural ash frame bonded to steel rear panels. Production ran until 1971, with around 215,000 Travellers built. The wood frame is both the car's defining feature and its biggest restoration challenge — but a sound Traveller is a usable, characterful and reliable modern classic that holds £14,000–£22,000 in the 2026 UK market.

The Traveller was introduced as part of the Series II range with the 803cc A-series engine, then upgraded in 1956 to the 948cc and finally the 1,098cc in 1962. The ash frame consists of A-, B- and C-pillars plus roof rails, all structural — unlike Volvo's later 'woodie' estates where wood was decorative. A-series engines are essentially indestructible — 250,000-mile examples are common. Smiths heater, hydraulic drum brakes (front and rear), and torsion-bar front suspension are simple to maintain. There were no factory sports or high-power variants — the closest is the Marshall-converted Traveller with a 1275cc MG Midget engine, a popular period upgrade still done today.

Travellers were exported to Australia, New Zealand and the USA in significant numbers. Australian-import cars are often rust-free but have right-hand-drive.
