Why is MPI biosecurity so strict at Auckland?
New Zealand has rigid biosecurity laws to protect its agriculture. Any soil, seed or organic matter on the vehicle triggers a re-cleaning fee of NZD 400+ and dwell time.
Do I need a VIRM inspection?
Yes. The vehicle must pass an entry certification inspection by a NZTA-approved certifier before it can be registered. Allow 7–14 days post-arrival.
